Stridekeep Terms of Service
These are the terms of service ("Terms") for Stridekeep, a mobile game in which your real-world step count contributes to a shared pixel-art mural. By installing or using Stridekeep, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app.
1. Who we are
Stridekeep is operated by Daniel Lourenço Costa Inverno, an independent solo developer based in the Netherlands.
Contact email: support@stridekeep.app (general) · privacy@stridekeep.app (data requests)
Our postal address is available on request — email us at the address above.
2. Your acceptance of these Terms
Installing, opening, or otherwise using Stridekeep is your acceptance of these Terms. The Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, form the agreement between you and us about your use of the game.
If we change these Terms, we’ll announce the change inside the app via a banner or modal before it takes effect, and we’ll update the "Last updated" date at the top.
3. Eligibility
Stridekeep is rated for ages 13 and older worldwide. Under the Dutch UAVG (and most EU member states’ implementations of GDPR Article 8), children under 16 in the European Economic Area (EEA) cannot validly consent to the processing of their personal data without their parent’s or guardian’s authorisation.
- If you are in the EU/EEA and under 16, Stridekeep is not intended for you. Don’t create an account.
- If you are outside the EU/EEA and at least 13, you may use Stridekeep.
- If you are under 13 anywhere in the world, Stridekeep is not intended for you.
By using the app, you confirm that you meet the age requirements above.
4. Your account
Stridekeep gives you a pseudonymous user account the first time you open the app — a stable identifier (UUID) plus an auto-assigned default nickname. You can keep playing anonymously forever, or you can optionally link an email and password so you can recover your progress on another device.
- Your account is for personal, non-commercial use.
- You’re responsible for keeping your linked email and password (if you set them) confidential.
- You may not transfer your account, sell access to it, or share it with others as if it were a separate account.
- You may delete your account at any time — see §9 ("Termination").
5. Acceptable use
To keep the game fair and pleasant for everyone, you agree not to:
- Automate your step count. Stridekeep reads step data from Android Health Connect (or Apple HealthKit, if iOS support is added in the future); spoofing that data via mock-location apps, automation tools, or other means is grounds for account suspension or termination.
- Exploit bugs. If you find a bug that lets you grant yourself tiles, cases, or purse you didn’t earn, please report it to support@stridekeep.app instead of using it. We may reverse exploited progress.
- Pick abusive nicknames. Don’t impersonate other players or public figures; don’t use slurs, harassment, or content that targets a protected class. We may rename or remove offending nicknames at our discretion, and will notify you in-app when we do so.
- Interfere with the service. Don’t attempt to overload the backend, scrape the live feed at high rates, or otherwise disrupt other players’ experience.
- Reverse-engineer or redistribute the app except where this restriction is prohibited by mandatory local law (e.g. EU software-directive interoperability rights).
6. Virtual items, in-game economy, and purchases
Stridekeep’s in-game items (cases, colours, badges, lifetime stats, etc.) are part of the gameplay experience. They:
- Are earned through gameplay only.
- Have no real-money value and cannot be cashed out, exchanged for money, or transferred between accounts.
- Are subject to change or balance adjustments as we tune the game economy across seasons; we’ll communicate material changes in-app where reasonable.
At present, Stridekeep does not offer real-money in-app purchases. If we add purchasable cosmetic items in the future, we’ll update these Terms and the Privacy Policy with the relevant payment-processor disclosures and refund policy before that happens.
7. Intellectual property
Our content. Stridekeep — including the app code, artwork, season murals, badges, sounds, the Stridekeep name and logo, and all other content we create — is owned by us (or our licensors) and protected by copyright, trade-mark, and other intellectual-property laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the app on your own device for the purpose of playing the game. That licence is conditional on your compliance with these Terms; it ends if your access is terminated under §9.
Your content. You retain whatever rights you have in the content you submit to Stridekeep — primarily your nickname and your tile placements. By submitting that content, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to host, display, and reproduce it as part of operating the game (rendering your placements on the team canvas, surfacing your nickname in the live feed, including pseudonymised placements in the persistent season record described in the Privacy Policy §7). This licence is limited to running the game; we do not use your content for marketing or sublicense it to third parties.
Your warranty. You confirm that the content you submit (in particular, your chosen nickname) does not infringe any third party’s intellectual-property, privacy, or other rights. We may remove or change content that does — see §5 ("Acceptable use") for the nickname-specific rule.
8. Health, safety, and disclaimers
Stridekeep encourages walking but is not a medical or fitness app.
- Walk safely. Pay attention to your surroundings; don’t stare at your phone while crossing roads or in unsafe environments.
- Consult a professional for medical advice. The app’s step counter is informational. If you have a medical condition, talk to a doctor before changing your activity level — don’t rely on Stridekeep.
- No warranty. The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind (express or implied) to the maximum extent permitted by law. We don’t promise the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that step counts will always be accurate (they’re as accurate as Health Connect / HealthKit and your device sensor allow).
Nothing in this section excludes liability that can’t be excluded under mandatory local law — see §10.
9. Termination
You can terminate your account at any time by tapping Settings → Privacy → DELETE MY ACCOUNT inside the app, or by submitting the deletion form at https://stridekeep.app/delete-account.html if you’ve already uninstalled. Deletion is permanent — see the Privacy Policy §7 for retention specifics.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially violate these Terms (for example: persistent step-count automation, abusive nicknames, attempts to disrupt the service). Where reasonable, we’ll warn you first; in cases of clear and serious abuse we may act immediately. You can still request data deletion under the Privacy Policy after a termination.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim arising out of or relating to Stridekeep is limited to the amount you’ve paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim. Since Stridekeep is currently free to play, that amount is effectively zero.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for (a) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, (b) death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or (c) any other liability that can’t be limited or excluded under mandatory local law (including, where applicable, EU consumer-protection rights).
11. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
If you are a consumer in the EU/EEA, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country in which you live; you can also bring a claim in the courts of your country of residence. EU consumers may also seek out-of-court resolution through the national consumer ADR body in their country of residence — the list of approved bodies is maintained by the European Commission at consumer-redress.ec.europa.eu.
Any other disputes will be brought before the competent courts in the Netherlands.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced inside the app via a banner or modal before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent revision. Continuing to use the app after a change is your acceptance of the updated Terms; if you don’t agree, you can delete your account at any time (see §9).
13. General provisions
Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, form the complete agreement between you and us about your use of Stridekeep, and supersede any prior understandings on the same subject matter.
Severability. If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions stay in full force and effect. Where reasonable, the invalid provision will be interpreted to give effect to its original intent within the bounds of what’s enforceable.
No waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
Assignment. You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms. We may assign or transfer ours (for example, in the event of a corporate restructuring) provided your rights under the Privacy Policy are not materially reduced; we’ll announce any such transfer in-app before it takes effect.
